Järven Rescue Airbed

Designed to facilitate a safe evacuation in public spaces.

The Järven Rescue Mattress is a dedicated evacuation solution designed to move a person in the event of a fire or other hazardous situations. The mattress can be handled by a single person to move the patient to an ambulance or an exit.

When every second counts, there is no room for compromise.

The rescue mattress is designed for environments where rescue sheets cannot be used, such as in public premises including stadiums, shopping centres and shopping arcades. The mattress has been fire-tested in accordance with SS 876 00 01 and is stored ready for immediate use in the event of an emergency.
To promote an ergonomic working posture and reduce the risk of work-related injuries, the Rescue Mattress is fitted with integrated pull handles. This design enables staff to work with a straighter back whilst moving the patient.
The straps are fitted with Velcro to secure the patient during transport. The rescue mattress glides easily over various types of flooring, making it easier to move the patient regardless of the surface. The mattress is designed to be used in corridors, on stairs and in narrow passages.

SS 876 00 39:2022 – Requirements for safe evacuation

The Swedish the standard SS 876 00 39:2022 has been developed by RISE[1] to ensure that rescue sheets and mattresses designed for evacuation purposes meet the required standards when subjected to extreme stresses.
Hospitals, care homes and public spaces should require that evacuation equipment complies with this standard in order to ensure patient safety and meet the requirements for systematic fire safety management (SBA).

What does the standard mean in practice?

In order for a product to be approved in accordance with SS 876 00 39:2022, it undergoes rigorous testing that simulates a real-life emergency situation:

  • Strength: The product is tested to ensure it can withstand heavy loads (at least 1000 N) without the material, straps or handles failing.
  • Verified glide performance: The standard stipulates that the material must have the correct level of friction to allow it to be pulled across different types of surfaces – including stairs and wet floors – with minimal effort on the part of staff.
  • Fixation: Straps and buckles are tested to ensure that the person remains in a stable and secure position throughout the transfer, even when being evacuated through narrow passages.

FAQ

Why do we need a rescue mattress when there are rescue sheets?

The rescue mattress is a freestanding unit designed for environments where there are no permanent beds fitted with care mattresses. It is intended for public premises such as stadiums, shopping centres and shopping arcades, where there is a need to quickly move a person from one location to a waiting ambulance. It is also used in healthcare facilities where beds do not allow for a separate rescue sheet (such as for patients on air mattresses and similar).

This indicates that the product has been tested by RISE under extreme conditions. The standard sets strict requirements regarding strength (to ensure that handles do not come loose), glide performance on different floor surfaces, and that the patient remains securely positioned throughout the transfer.

Yes, the rescue mattress has been designed to be dragged across different types of flooring and can be used when moving patients up and down stairs and through narrow passages.

The mattress is designed so that it can be handled by a single person if necessary. The integrated carrying handles and the material’s gliding properties make it easier to move, even when carrying heavy loads.

Yes, the surface material of the rescue mattress has been specially selected and tested to ensure good gliding properties on both dry and wet floor surfaces, as well as on stairs, which is critical if the sprinkler system has been activated.
