Melissa 12

Reversible medical mattress

Melissa 12 is a sturdy care mattress designed to provide good pressure distribution and a high level of comfort in day-to-day care work. To suit different types of care beds and meet safety requirements, the mattress is available in two heights, 12 cm and 14 cm. The homogeneous foam core is both reversible and rotatable, supporting cost-efficiency and an extended service life.

Offers excellent pressure distribution and comfort

The foam core, combined with our RX cover, ensures excellent pressure distribution. With a proven low pressure on protruding body parts, such as the heels and shoulders, there is no need for a separate heel zone.
The mattress has successfully completed fatigue testing in accordance with standard SS 876 00 11. It is therefore verified to maintain its clinical performance and structural integrity during articulated seating positions with an elevated backrest.

Covers Engineered for Specialised Functionality

The Melissa 12 is supplied with an RX-series cover—a range of healthcare covers manufactured from vapour-permeable, waterproof, and low-noise two-way stretch polyurethane fabric.
All covers feature an integrated protective zip flap.

  • RX-5 standard cover *
  • RXH-5 featuring integrated carrying handles for ease of transport.*
  • RXI-5 featuring an integrated evacuation functionality.
  • RXS-5 featuring an elasticated design (for mattress overlays).*

Can be supplied with welded seams (-W)

STANDARD FOR OBJECTIVE EVALUATION

To obtain an objective assessment of mattresses' pressure distribution properties, RISE[1] developed a measurement method where the actual counter-pressure exerted by a mattress is measured using indenters. The measurement method is described in Swedish standard SS 876 00 13.
Melissa 12 has been tested by RISE[1] according to measurement method SS 876 00 13 and is pressure-relieving up to and including wound category 2.

Documented pressure relief for both 12 and 14 cm

We have chosen to test both our standard heights at RISE so that you as a customer can be confident that the pressure relief is good regardless of the model.

FAQ

Why choose the Melissa 12 over higher-tier models?

Melissa Basic is designed for environments requiring a stable and durable medical mattress. It is suitable for the prevention and management of Category 1 pressure ulcers, supporting patient comfort across a broad patient population while offering enhanced cost-efficiency.

By regularly rotating and flipping your mattress, you distribute wear evenly across the foam core, which prevents the mattress from "settling" and significantly extends its lifespan.

The Melissa 12 is highly adaptable and engineered to accommodate standard adjustable healthcare and profiling beds. It maintains its pressure redistribution capabilities throughout various articulated positions, including when the backrest is elevated.

The selection depends primarily on the specific bed frame configuration. A 12 cm height is typically specified to ensure that the side rails maintain the required clearance above the mattress surface, in compliance with medical bed safety standards. The 14 cm variant is selected when greater core depth and immersion support are prioritised. Both heights provide equivalent pressure redistribution capabilities.
